Avoiding The Dreaded Caffeine Monster

Caffeine is not your friend. People rely on it far too much nowadays, and they don’t realize that it is them drinking caffeine in the first place which is making them tired and therefore needing more of it. Those people who do use caffeine to help them throughout the day act just like a drug user, always looking for their next fix, and in fact caffeine is the most widely used psychoactive drug in the world with up to 80% of Americans using it every day.

It can be hard to get your head around caffeine being classed as a drug because we tend to think of that word meaning the really hard drugs that on the street, but it is a stimulant and that is what people are craving all day long.What people don’t realize is that just like having sugar and feeling a rush of energy, then with caffeine what goes up must come down. After the caffeine has finished working then you body is flooded with adrenaline and you are actually more tired out then before you had that coffee, that is when people have another one to prop themselves up and it goes on like that throughout the day.

One of the best things I have done was to wean myself off caffeine, it isn’t easy as you will have withdrawal symptoms, and once you have been off it for awhile then you may find having something like an espresso gives you a headache as you have no tolerance for it, but it really stabilizes your energy levels. Now instead of waking up and counting down the seconds until I can get my first cup of coffee, then I am refreshed and ready to face whatever the day throws at me, and that energy last throughout the as I am not flooding my body with adrenaline.

If you want to break your caffeine habit then one of the best ways to do it is with decaffeinated coffee. Some people will instantly say that it doesn’t taste the same so they would never drink it, but I have never noticed the difference and have served it to other people before without them ever saying anything was different. So start off replacing just one cup per day with decaff, then after a few days increase that to two etc. Within a few weeks you’ll be drinking just decaff and you will feel much better for it.

If you do suffer with any symptoms when you are trying to switch out your caffeine then make sure you visit your doctor to make sure you are ok. I don’t want you thinking it is just withdrawal symptoms when really you are ill with something and that would delay you getting diagnosed, but a lot of the time the headaches etc are just your body trying to fix up all the damage flooding your body with adrenaline all day did
