3 Ways To Prevent Constipation

Most people who have never suffered with constipation assume it is a very minor problem, but in actual fact it has a serious effect on your life and your ability to work, and can cause a great deal of pain and discomfort. Eat more fiber: People always tell us that we should be eating more fiber, yet most people don’t heed that advice. The figure you should be aiming for is 25g or a bit more per day, yet it has been suggested that as many as 75% of Americans don’t reach that figure.

Fiber is important because it clears all the junk out of our colon as it passes through because it doesn’t get digested, and it helps bind together all the other stuff in there too. It also makes you feel full, yet doesn’t add on any calories, so increasing your fiber intake is the best way to help you eat less and lose weight. If you want to get more fiber into your diet then start to increase the amount you eat slowly to give your body time to react, to find foods with a lot of fiber in then just check the label on the packet and it will tell you exactly how much it contains.

Drink more water: I bet you have heard of people saying you need to drink 8, 8oz glasses of water per day haven’t you? It is always in magazines and on TV, but really that works out to only about 3 pints of water per day. But just like with fiber then most people don’t come anywhere near that amount, and if you don’t drink much water then don’t be surprised when your stools dry up and you get constipated.

Exercise more: Everybody seems to hate the idea of exercising, yet if you get fit then you will be healthier, have more energy, lose weight and have a whole host of other benefits. One of those benefits is it helps the natural contraction of the intestinal muscles to move things along, and it can also help to move things through quicker so that it doesn’t lose as much water along the way and stays soft.
